Scandinavian-Inspired Fragrances

Nordic perfumery has imposed on the world an aesthetic radically different from French or oriental tradition — absolute purity, sophisticated minimalism, an obsession with clean textures and noble materials used with sobriety. Byredo, founded in Stockholm by Swedish-Indian Ben Gorham, is its most accomplished and influential expression: its fragrances have the design of its bottles — white, precise, without unnecessary ornament, but of unsuspected depth in use. Gypsy Water explores the boreal forest with its pines, junipers and resin. Blanche distils fresh snow and white musk in an almost virtual transparency. The concept of hygge — that untranslatable Danish word designating the intimate warmth of a comfortable interior shared with loved ones — also inspires some of these fragrances, warm and soft as a candle lit on a stormy evening.
